Unemployed – Stress Management : Unemployment can be a very difficult thing to come to terms with, you might have some savings or spare money saved up and ready to use if necessary, but this can just add a lot of pressure to the situation and cause even further stress (why would you want to burn through your savings?!).
Fortunately there are some steps that you can take in order to get the most from this situation. Instead of it being a negative situation, you might even be able to turn it around into a positive one with the help of our advice and guidance!
Accept Your Current Situation
The first thing to do is accept the current situation that you are in – this is so important simply because you can not take action (we’ll talk more about this later!) without first coming to terms with your current situation. It might be hard at first to admit that you are unemployed, but by doing so you are enabling yourself to fix the problem instead of running away from it.
Stay around Friends and Family
Being around friends and family during this time is one of the most important things that a person could do. Unemployment is often correlated with depression and so you might be feeling a bit down – don’t worry, this is completely normal! Your friends and family will help you take your mind of the situation and be able to cheer you up when you are feeling down.
In addition to this, by spending more time around your friends or family you might come into contact with a relative you haven’t seen in some time, or a friend who has a new job! If these people know about your current situation they might just be willing to put in a good word for you, or at the very least let you know if they find a suitable job opening for you.
Accepting your current situation and spending more time around friends and family are both great things to do at this time, but there is one thing wrong with them – they are severely limited in how they are going to help you get out of this situation.
If you really want to improve the current situation that you are in, by finding a new job or something similar, then you really need to take action. This might involve searching on job boards for a few hours every day, going out and taking courses to learn new skills, maybe even searching for business opportunities and becoming self employed! If nobody wants to hire you, you can always hire yourself!
